George E. Thompson
George Thompson is one of 45 distinguished artists in the world to be formally designated a master pastelist. He has studied at the Art Students League with several prominent American portraitists over a 25-year period.
George Thompson specializes in landscapes as well as lifestyles and family portraiture working in both oil and pastel media. His portraits can depict subjects involved in lifestyle activities such as golf…tennis…sailing, and in a family at home environment. The landscapes follow the American impressionist tradition. A brilliant use of color and a unique style combine to establish his work as distinctive. Thompson’s lifestyle and family portraits are suitable for hanging in any setting.
He has taught in many prominent art schools in the New York area. He was an instructor of portrait and landscape painting in pastels at the Pastel Society of America’s school at the National Arts Club in New York City for twelve years. George Thompson served as the Educational Chairman and Course Coordinator for the Torrell/Phillips School.
George’s unique talents have resulted in many distinguished awards including: Rockport Publications, Best in Pastel in 1998; Pastel Society of America Show 1989-1990; Salmagundi Club-Landscape Award 1991; Barbara and Gary Scott Award for Landscape 1990; and Uschi Greuterich Award for Landscape 1990.
George Thompson was born in New York City and educated at Fordham University and NYU and now resides in Cornelius, North Carolina.
